Home Safety

As we prepare for our children to return to school many of our homes will be unoccupied during the day, here are some basic tips that can help to secure your home.

1. Make a security check list and post in a prominent place.

I. Lock all doors and windows.
II. Leave a light on if you will not be back until after dark.
III. Verify that any window air-conditioning units are secured to the window frame.
IV. Verify that motion sensor lights are turned on.
V. Verify that you have set a “Charlie Bar” or commercial locking device in your sliding doors.
VI. Set alarm.

2. Account for all of the keys to your house.

3. If you use an emergency key hider, make sure it is not placed in an obvious location and that it is not easily identifiable.
