Campus Public Safety Security Officer Part time and 32 + Hrs (Haverhill/Lawrence)
Public Safety supports the college community by providing various services and programs that contribute to maintaining campuses that are reasonably safe and secure. Developing a safe and secure environment in an academic institution is the responsibility of the entire community. Within our community, the NECC Department of Public Safety/Eagle Investigations Inc. is assigned the primary responsibility to identify programs, methods and approaches to assist the institution toward achieving a reasonably safe and secure environment. Therefore, the Department is expected to be the leader in this area.
The Department exists for one main purpose and that is to support the goals of the higher education community. It exists to assist those who seek and those who impart knowledge, as well as those who provide support to the mission of the institution. The Department endeavors to preserve an environment where diverse social, cultural and academic values are allowed to develop and prosper.
All members of the Department are expected to actively participate in the achievement of our goals and in the service of the college students, faculty and staff.
Under the general supervision of Director of Public Safety or his/her designee the Campus Public Safety Security Officer will:
Maintain security by providing appropriate screening of those who enter the building;
Conduct Public Safety patrols;
Act as a liaison between NECC Public Safety and Administrative personnel;
Additionally the PSSO will be required to perform other duties assigned in support of the goals and responsibilities of the NECC Department of Public Safety.
Basic Requirements: Minimum of Associate’s Degree or the equivalent in related experience. CPR certification and First Aid is required; must be able to pass a 40 hr. training program.
Must pass a background investigation of personal character, professional references and criminal records. Basic computer skills necessary. May be required to lift up to 50 lbs. and have a full range of mobility throughout the workday. Must be able to act in a quick and professional manner during an emergency. Must possess a valid Massachusetts Driver’s license upon starting date.
Preferred Qualifications: Able to speak and understand Spanish, 1 to 3 years related experience and former police experience.
Special Work Schedule Requirements: May be required to work rotating shifts on nights, weekends and holidays. Must live within a reasonable distance from campus. May be required to report for duty at any time, including during states of emergency and college closings.
